History of necklaces

Necklaces have been an integral part of jewelry since ancient civilizations. It is believed to be as old as Stone Age, which is around 40,000 years old. During those times, people decorating themselves with mollusk necklaces. Later, animal teeth, bones, shells are stones are used as the main material. The discovery of metals, gold and silver have make it more interesting.

Types of necklaces (length wise)

Choker         : 35 to 43 cm long and sits high on the neck.

Matinee        : 56 to 58 cm long, typically a single strand that rests at the top of the cleavage.

Opera          : 75 to 90 cm long and sits at the breastbone.

Princess        : 45 to 50 centimetres long. Between choker and matinee length.

Sautoir/rope   : any necklace longer than opera length.
